Jazz Forest’s First Rehearsal

Jazz Forest’s First Rehearsal

Bassist Nate Omdal wonders which is taller: the music or the musician.

Ron Jones’ new jazz project “Jazz Forest” an exciting new ensemble based out of the pacific northwest, is celebrating a successful first rehearsal. Mr. Jones has painstakingly assembled 12 of the regions finest musicians to help him bring his vision to life. The ensemble is made up of a slightly unusual instrumentation. While the instruments Mr. Jones has chosen to write for are conventional for jazz, the conventions and pairings are anything but standard. ¬†The effect is a totally symphonic approach and sound for a mid-sized jazz ensemble.

The ensemble was honored to have the world renowned¬†saxophonist Pete Christlieb in attendance. Mr. Christlieb’s legendary tone was on full display from the first moment his mouthpiece was fitted to his horn. Everyone in the ensemble was inspired in turn to do their best, as Pete’s presence was clearly felt all evening, and his humorous personality put everyone at ease.

The Jazz Forest project promises to be an exciting addition to the Pacific Northwest’s music community. Ron and the band are more than excited to share all the great music and talents of this wonderful group of musicians.
